Are Smithco Leather bags lined?
Most of my bags are lined with a soft, light suede — unless otherwise specified in the product description. It adds a touch of luxury and protects the interior while keeping the natural feel of the leather. Some smaller or more minimal designs (like clutches or the Essential Mini) are left unlined for a more raw, tactile aesthetic.
What type of leather do you use?
I use full grain leather — the toughest, most durable leather available. It’s taken from the top layer of the hide, with all the natural grain and character left intact. That means each piece carries subtle variations in tone and texture, and may show natural scars or markings — a reminder that it came from something real.
Full grain leather ages beautifully, softening and developing a rich patina over time. It’s strong, long-lasting, and only gets better with use.
Why are your straps different?
We use veg-tanned leather for most straps — the same leather used in belts. It’s strong, durable, and won’t stretch out over time. On smaller bags, we use a lighter veg-look leather that’s more flexible and lightweight. Each strap is hand-dyed, slicked, and sealed for a smooth, durable finish.
Will my bag look exactly like the one in the photo?
Not exactly — and that’s the point. Leather is a natural material and every piece reacts differently to dyeing and use. Slight variations in texture, tone, or stitching are part of what makes your bag one of a kind.
How long will it take to get my order?
Most items are made to order. I do my best to get your order out as quickly as possible, but please allow about a week for production before shipping. Once ready, you’ll receive tracking details. Delivery usually takes 2–4 working days depending on where you are.
How should I care for my leather item?
Leather doesn’t need much — but a little care goes a long way. Use leather-specific care products and avoid household cleaners. Test any product on a hidden area first. Keep your bag out of direct sunlight and moisture. If it gets wet, let it air dry naturally — no heat!
Where do you ship?
We ship across South Africa. If you're outside SA and have your heart set on something, reach out — we’ll try make a plan.
Do you accept returns?
Yes — if you're not completely happy, you can return your item within 7 days of receiving it (unused and in original condition). Custom or personalised items can’t be returned unless faulty.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes — every Smithco item comes with a lifetime warranty on workmanship. If something goes wrong due to how it was made, I’ll fix it. This doesn’t cover normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or neglect — but I do offer repairs where possible.
Do you personalise bags?
Yes — we can add laser engraving (like initials, names or a short message) to most products. Just reach out to discuss your options.
Do you do custom branded items?
Yes — selected items can be branded for corporate gifting, events or team kits. Think leather aprons, travel bags, or hip flasks. Let’s chat about your ideas.
